Lyons Davidson’s offices around the country will be taking part in a special charity torch relay beginning next week in the West Country.

The torch will travel 1,756 miles around the country, being passed between 95 companies and raising funds for Rainbow Trust.

Palliative care

The children’s charity provides expert social and palliative care round the clock to families with a child who has a life-threatening or terminal illness. The torch relay is organised by I Love Claims, a company set up by Chris Ashworth to encourage positive change within the claims industry by bringing together all the different sectors.

The relay is one of several ideas contributing to a £500,000 target for Rainbow Trust, which relies almost entirely on voluntary donations to help over a thousand families in England every year.

Lyons Davidson will be bearing the torch around Britain for six stages. The first is in Plymouth on 18 June, when we will transport the torch 31 miles in 1.5 hours.

On 19 June, a group will walk the torch from Queen Square in Bristol for approximately a mile, handing it over to Nationwide Crash Repair Centre in Chapel Street.

The torch will be in Cardiff on 21 June, where we will transport it two-and-half miles (in as weird and wacky a way as possible).

Lyons Davidson next grabs hold of the torch on 2 July, when staff in London will cycle from our Fleet Street office to Croydon to hand over to the next carriers. After that, it will be relayed up to the Midlands, reaching our Solihull office on 11 July and carried for five miles to the next torch-bearers, who will then pass the flame up the country from company to company, until it reaches Lyons Davidson’sLeeds office on 24 July. Staff at that location will bike the torch 16 miles to Huddersfield, to the next leg of the relay. The relay ends on 31 July at ADR Macclesfield.

As the torch reaches each of our offices, we will be holding a ‘dress down’ event, with staff will be encouraged to dress as colourfully as possible for a donation to Rainbow Trust. We will also be armed with collecting buckets (and festooned with balloons) on each leg of the journey, to raise money from our colleagues and contacts in nearby offices and business. You can make a donation on our Virgin Money Giving page here and follow the progress of the torch here.

Trevor Still, Lyons Davidson’s Business Services Director said: “We are delighted to take part in this charity torch relay, especially as the country is getting a real buzz from the Olympics at the moment. We’re really delighted to be raising money for Rainbow Trust.”
