Illegal tooth-whitening training company prosecuted

The General Dental Council recently brought its first prosecution of an illegal tooth-whitening training company. The director of Smile Like the Stars Training Ltd was found guilty of unlawfully practising dentistry.

Tooth whitening is classed as dentistry and can only be provided by dentists, dental hygienists, dental therapists or clinical dental technicians following a dentist’s prescription.

The two people who brought the case were incorrectly told they would receive a qualification that would allow them to provide tooth whitening treatments. They were also provided with false information about the legality of tooth whitening.

Read more about the story on the General Dental Council’s website and in the South Wales Argus.
