Lyons Davidson’s Head Injury team attended Headway’s Annual “Way Ahead” Weekend on 7 July 2012 at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham.

Over 350 delegates attended from all over Britain, representing most Headway groups throughout England, Wales and Scotland. The weekend included a variety of speakers who dealt with the effects of head injury.

Injury rehabilitation

These included Ceri Bowen, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, who spoke about a relational approach to rehabilitation and thinking about relationships after brain injury, and Ian Jordan, a specialist optician, who spoke about management of visual processing problems in neuro-rehabilitation.

Assistance dogs

In the afternoon there was a presentation from Canine Partners, a registered charity that assists people with disabilities to enjoy greater independence and quality of life through the provision of specially trained dogs. The talk concentrated on the assistance that dogs can provide to people who have suffered from head injuries and included practical demonstrations from Chico and Erin (two Canine Partner dogs), who showed  the practical assistance they could provide to someone with disabilities arising from head injuries. Workshops were also held throughout the day on a variety of specialist subjects for delegates to attend.
