Kate is an Associate Solicitor who specialises in both contentious and non-contentious private client matters. She graduated from the University of Durham in 2004 and came to Lyons Davidson on qualification, where she worked as a family law solicitor before transferring to the Private Client team in 2012. She has experience of dealing with a wide range of contentious probate matters, and frequently acts for claimants and defendants in cases where the validity of a will is called into question, for example, where there are concerns about lack of testamentary capacity, undue influence or lack of knowledge and approval. She is also experienced in handling claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, where she has acted for claimants, defendants and personal representatives in a neutral capacity.
Kate often deals with equitable actions such as claims concerning mutual wills, and constructive and resulting trusts, as well as other miscellaneous probate disputes, for example, disputes in relation the administration of estates, applications to the probate registry for the removal of caveats and applications for estate accounts.
When she is not dealing with contentious matters, Kate handles administration of estates (taxable and non-taxable) and regularly obtains grants and prepares wills. She is also experienced at setting up Personal Injury Trusts, and preparing and advising on Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyship applications. She frequently assists Tamara in her role as Deputy.
Kate’s clients comment on her patience and understanding, and she prides herself on the support she is able to give to clients during the most difficult of times. She is studying for her ACTAPS qualification.
