Lyons Davidson attends Bristol college Careers Academies Summer Event
Lyons Davidson attended the St Brendan’s Sixth Form College Careers Academy Summer Event, joining other employers from Bristol, including Lloyds Bank and members of the Chamber of Commerce who had also been working with St Brendan’s students.
Lyons Davidson is collaborating with sixth form colleges in three offices: the Leeds office was the first to join the Careers Academies UK scheme. It was joined by the Bristol office last year and plans are in place to roll out the scheme to the Cardiff office. In Bristol, this is also our second year working with Stroud and South Gloucestershire College.
This year, Lyons Davidson staff members have mentored five students and we welcomed them for a six-week internship with the company on 8 July, after establishing links with the college in September 2012. The students took part in the normal staff induction on their first day to acclimatise to a working environment. They then have three blocks of two weeks’ work experience in different departments. Students have the opportunity to shadow members of staff and will be encouraged to work on projects. This year, the interns have also been given the added challenge of working together to organise a charity fundraising event to raise money for the Bristol office’s nominated charity, the Julian Trust.
