Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair
On Monday, 6 March 2017, we attended the Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair at Leeds First Direct Arena.
Over 5000 students attended last year and even more were thought to have attended this year. They were to visit over 130 businesses, who ranged form solicitors to web design companies.
We spoke to hundreds of students about the Legal Apprenticeships on offer at Lyons Davidson and generated a lot of interest for our upcoming application window.
We recommended this opportunity, as it is a good alternative to going on to higher education: apprentices achieve a Level 3 CILEx Apprenticeship qualification with the potential for further qualifications in the future.
We told the students that we firmly believe that apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity to begin a career in law and is ideal for people who can’t or don’t want to go to university, as it provides on-the-job training in a flexible way.
At present, we have two apprentices in our Leeds office who have quickly become valued and respected members of our Recoveries team. They have their own caseloads, so they are learning through doing while also getting paid. In addition, they would not have the student debt from attending university – bonus!
Students were able ask us any questions they had in relation to our roles at Lyons Davidson, the career paths we had taken and what it is like to work for Lyons Davidson.
All the students had a rewarding evening and we are looking forward to next year’s Apprenticeship Fair. We’re also hoping to see some familiar faces when conducting the interviews for the apprenticeships later this year.
Special thanks to Lewis Richardson and the Recruitment and Development Committee for setting up and attending the event.
