Ben Derrington

Ben Derrington leads the Regulatory Corporate Crime team. He is an experienced regulatory lawyer with specialist non-legal training in environmental assessment and health and safety management. Ben has a Master’s in Environmental Analysis and Assessment, and holds the NEBOSH National Certificate in health and safety. He is a member of the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association and the Health and Safety Law Association.

The team’s work typically includes advising on investigations and prosecutions by:

  • Police
  • Defra
  • Environment Agency
  • HSE
  • Local authorities
  • DVSA (Vosa).

Past cases, some of them conducted under scrutiny by national media, include:

  • Pollution and permitting offences
  • Workplace fatalities
  • Fraud
  • Product liability

The team conducts environmental, health & safety and food law due diligence in mergers and acquisitions. Deals have included multisite acquisitions of environmentally sensitive businesses. We also advise on regulatory compliance issues, including negotiation with regulators on strategic issues and UK transposition of EU law and we assist with environmental, health and safety issues in commercial contracts including waste-to-energy projects.
