International Whiplash Conference 2012

Fifteen years on from our first International Whiplash Conference, Lyons Davidson will offer presentations from some of the world’s leading experts on a topic that is at the forefront of the minds of both politicians and those who work in the motor insurance industry. It is argued that the ‘whiplash epidemic’ continues unabated and the conference aims to consider the causes and offer the opportunity for open discussion and debate around possible solutions.

The three-day conference will provide a comprehensive review of current knowledge and research into neck injuries following road traffic accidents. We will spend time considering how injury can occur and what can be done to mitigate this.

Questions to be discussed include:

▪ What and why do we compensate and do insurers really want to ban whiplash?

▪ Can we adopt a model that denies injury can occur below a certain speed?

▪ What are the implications if we do?

▪ Do we know why an  individual may go on to have long-term symptoms?

▪ How can they be treated?

▪ Should we offer treatment to all who sustain a neck injury following a road traffic accident?

▪ Which interventions are most effective?

▪ What other factors affect recovery and can a positive expectation predict a better outcome?

The conference will address these questions and more, concluding with a panel discussion on how we can ensure that the right people are compensated.

The Law Society, APIL and ILEX have accredited the conference with 6 CPD points per day.
