New Malden Office

Peter Revell

Peter Revell, Solicitor and Partner, is Head of Advocacy and the New Malden Costs Department with 11 years of experience. Peter conducts all levels of final hearings, detailed assessments, case management hearings, applications, infant approvals, coroner's inquests, CRU appeals and advice on liability and quantum. Peter is based in the New Malden office and covers London and Southern England.

Peter is also a qualified financial advisor and a member of both F.O.I.L. and A.P.I.L. He has been with Lyons Davidson for more than ten years and was instrumental in setting up the Lyons Davidson Pension Scheme.

Jas Kaur

Jas Kaur is an advocate who, after the Bar Vocational Course, was called to the Bar in 2004. Her areas of expertise include case management conferences, allocation hearings, applications, small claims hearings, infant approvals including any advice relating to such approvals and advice on liability and quantum. She has also attended accredited training in special damages.

Jas obtained her law degree at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. During her three years in Norwich she enjoyed success in the internal mooting competition, getting through to the quarter-final stages.

Mel Andrews

Mel Andrews is an Advocate who was called to the bar in 2005 after the Bar Vocational Course where she achieved “very competent” having gained a distinction in her Post Graduate Diploma in Law. Her area of expertise is detailed assessments, applications, small claims track hearings, infant approvals including any advice relating to such approvals and advice on liability and quantum. Mel has attended accredited training, in particular in costs.

Before joining Lyons Davidson Mel worked for The Royal Bank of Scotland for many years and spent time travelling around the world. She lived in New Zealand for a year where she worked for the Industrial Relations Service for the NZ Government. Mel is also involved with FRU (Free Representation Unit/Pro Bono work).

Jamie Walker-Howarth

Jamie Walker-Howarth is an Advocate who recently joined Advocacy in the New Malden office. He conducts small claims hearings, applications and infant approval hearings in addition to advising on liability and quantum. Jamie’s area of expertise is in personal injury matters and he covers the London area.

Jamie achieved a degree in Archaeology Anthropology from St. Hugh’s College, Oxford (2.1) in 2000. During this time, he organised and achieved success in several debating competitions. He completed an MA in Acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama before working as an accountant in order to fund his legal studies.

He passed his CPE with a distinction at London Metropolitan where he was a finalist in its Mooting competition and has been selected for its Mooting demonstration team.

Jamie went on to complete his Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law (very competent) where he was short-listed for a pro-bono award.

Bristol Office

Sally Heffernan

Bristol office is the hub of administration for the department. Our Practice Manager, Sally Heffernan, oversees it.

Sally joined Lyons Davidson in 1998. She is both secretary to Peter and vital within the advocacy unit as a whole.

Sally is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the Department and managing the team with her support staff. Her role includes collating all the information on the hearings, booking advocates/counsel, receiving the files from fee earners, dealing with attendance records after the hearings/advice is completed and generally keeping the entire department organised. She also deals with all statistical information relating to the department. Sally is the point of contact for the advocacy team and can be emailed on: sheffernan@lyonsdavidson.co.uk

James Stoll

James Stoll is a Barrister of 11 years call, with an area of expertise in personal injury (road traffic, employer’s liability and occupier’s liability). James conducts multi-track and fast track hearings, applications, case management conferences, pleadings, advices on liability and quantum, coroners inquests and CRU Appeals. He covers Southern England and West Midlands.

James joined Lyons Davidson in March 2006.

Hamish MacBean

Hamish MacBean is a Barrister who was called to the Bar in November 2002. He conducts trials and small claims track hearings, case management conferences, allocation hearings, applications, detailed and summary assessments for both Claimants and Defendants and advice on liability and quantum in addition to drafting.

Hamish’s areas of expertise are in personal injury, contract matters and some family matters, including employer’s liability, public liability, road traffic, Animals Act, Highways Act and negligence issues. He has specialised in a number of breach of contract trials, primarily relating to disputes with builders and has also undertaken family work, particularly involving contact and injunctions. Hamish is a member of PIBA.

Hamish travels to areas in Southern England, Wales, London and the Midlands to conduct cases. He is also involved with internal training, especially costs related.

Hamish studied for his LLB (EU) Hons at the University of Leicester and spent his third year studying German and European law in Frankfurt am Main. He attained a Certificate in German Law (Rechtsbescheinigung) from
Johann-Wolfgang Goethe Universitaet, Frankfurt am Main. Hamish has spent four and half years living in Germany at various stages of his life and speaks fluent German together with conversational French.

Kim Han

Kim Han is a Solicitor (March 2005) who was originally called to the Bar in 2001. Kim has attended accredited training in low velocity collisions and special damages. Her areas of expertise are in case management conferences, allocations hearings, applications, trials, assessment of damages harings, small claims track hearings, infant approvals, coroner's inquests and advising on liability and quantum. She covers Southern England and the West Midlands.

She graduated from Cardiff University with 2.1 in LLB (Hons) in 2000. In 2001 she obtained 'very competent' in the Bar Vocational Course with Nottingham Law School.

Kim also speaks conversational Mandarin and is fluent in Malay. She can also speak Hakka, Hokkien and Cantonese dialects.

Trainee Solicitor

Advocacy also offers one or occasionally two seats for trainees at the Bristol and New Malden offices. It encourages their involvement in both advocacy work and administration relating to the department.

We aim to give them a range of experience, under the guidance of other members of the department, including conducting cases at court and advising on both liability and quantum. As a department we also encourage their involvement in administration to assist them to understand the needs of the running of the advocacy department as a unit.

Trainees are encouraged to take part in training both externally and in-house to complete their training with the department.

Leeds Office

Bianca Huggins

Bianca Huggins is an advocate who was Called to the Bar in 2004 following achieving an LLB (Hons) Law and Government 2:1 and successfully completing the Bar Vocational Course. Her areas of expertise include case management conferences, allocation hearings, applications, small claims track hearings, infant approvals in addition to advising on liability and quantum. Bianca started with Lyons Davidson as a fee earner and “friend of Advocacy” and then progressed to set up the Leeds department of Advocacy. Bianca covers Leeds and the North of England.

Bianca studied for her degree in Northern Ireland, before completing the Bar Vocational Course at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Before joining Lyons Davidson Bianca worked for a leading Belfast Solicitors doing both civil and some interesting criminal work.

Abby Langford

Abby Langford is our latest member of the Leeds office, having been Called to the Bar in 2005. Abby achieved an LLM whilst studying for the Bar Vocational Course. Her areas of expertise include applications, small claims track hearings, infant approvals in addition to advising on liability and quantum.
